MATHS IS AN ART FORM!

To be fair to everyone, there are two categories – primary and secondary.

We are keen to help students realise that there is far more to mathematics than just calculations and tests. To this end we are introducing a new competition this year to fit with our theme – we’re calling it the A3 challenge!

Here’s what your students have to do. Simply produce a piece of artwork which celebrates the number 3 in some way – but on a piece of A3 paper! To make it fair to all, we ask that all designs are hand-drawn rather than computer-generated.

(This is NOT because we don’t like software, far from it, but we are keen to level the playing field for all, and not all students have access to the same levels of technology.)

We have a few copies of Alex Bellos’s delightful book, Snowflake Seashell, Star to award as prizes, so get creative!

N.B. To be eligible to win, your school must have registered for Maths Week 2023.  Post a photo of each entry on Twitter by 9am on Thursday 16th November with the hashtag #MathsWeekEngland, and tag us (@Maths_Week) so that we are notified. You do not need to use students’ names, but please use initials or some other unique identifier, so that if we choose a winner from one of your entries, you can identify the student to whom we will send the prize. Finally, Maths Week England reserves the right to use and show all competition entries. Entry into the competition will be deemed acceptance of these terms.
