Our annual video competition:
Make a Video - about 'The Power of Two !'
This has been one of our most popular competitions over the year – and there is a £100 prize for the winning entry!
Please read this year’s terms and conditions very carefully – any incorrectly submitted entries, or entries from schools which are not registered for MWE22, will NOT be eligible for the prize.
Plan, shoot, edit and upload a maths video based around this year’s theme, which is ‘The Power of Two’. Here are the terms and conditions:
- The video must be less than 2 minutes long.
- You must upload the video to Twitter using the hashtag #MathsWeek22 AND include our handle of @Maths_Week. Videos may also be uploaded to our Facebook page, but ONLY those posted on Twitter will be considered. We reserve the right to publicly share any videos submitted.
- If you do not have a Twitter account, you can create a free one for your school or department very simply.
- Only videos uploaded by 1pm on Thursday 17th November will be eligible for the prize, to allow time for judging.
- The winning video will be revealed on our website and social media channels on Friday 18th November just after 1pm. As ever, the decision of the Maths Week Committee will be final.
The Children’s Commissioner, Rachel de Souza, has announced a Big Ask Challenge that is happening as Part of Maths Week England. Click here for more info.
Author and mathematician Kit Yates became very well known during the Covid-19 pandemic, for his explanations of some of the data and claims being made by various people.
He is very generously offering a copy of his book, ‘The Maths of Life and Death‘, to the winner of this year’s poster competition, which is to design an ‘infographic’. This prize will go to the creator or creators of the best poster or infographic. It must be A3 in size, and contain no more than 100 words – the emphasis should be on a strong visual element. The poster should demonstrate or explain some aspect of mathematics, or perhaps present data relating to a real-life situation in an appealing and eye-catching way. We will be particularly impressed if it has a link to this year’s theme, which is ‘The Power of 2’.
Watch Kit talk about the competition here.
