We had a huge number of entries for our competition this year. The standard was incredibly high, and we were so impressed with the efforts so many of you have put in.
We decided that your work was so impressive that we are awarding not one, but two £100 prizes: one for primary and one for secondary.
Here are the winning entries. For Primary, we awarded the prize to Orla Sheppard, a Y5 pupil from Higher Bebington Junior School, Wirral. Orla’s teacher, Rachael Pugh, said ‘I’m so proud of Orla – We’d talked about Katherine Johnson in class, and she worked hard and did all the research herself.’

The secondary winner was Annie Gill, who is in Year 8 at Beaulieu Park School, Chelmsford. Head of Maths Maisie Tickner said “We’re delighted – Annie is so passionate about this, and when she heard about the competition she came straight to my office wanting to enter!

The standard and originality were excellent this year, so we decided to also ‘highly commended’ status to some of the other entries – these will be announced here tomorrow once the winners have had time to celebrate!
