10am, Friday 13th November: Mathematical Art

Clarissa Grandi is the undisputed Queen of Mathematical Art, and she has very kindly agreed to run an exclusive maths art class for Maths Week England. Details to follow – but suitable for Years 5 to 9 (or anyone else who cares to give it a go!) All attendees will need :

  • Sharp pencil
  • Ruler
  • Tracing paper
  • Pair of compasses

The session will be run via Zoom for a maximum of 100 attending classes, but will be recorded for anyone who is not successful in gaining a place. Details of the Zoom link will be in Friday’s daily email which you will receive if you have registered for Maths Week.

(NB: Anyone who brings a compass instead of a pair of compasses will NOT be able to access the class, but WILL at least have a very clear idea of which direction is North).

For a sense of how good a teacher Clarissa is, check out this first attempt at drawing, from someone who attended one of Clarissa’s webinars and who hadn’t drawn anything for over 40 years because their art teacher had dismissed them as useless:
